AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that can appear in Google Search results, combining information about a topic and surfacing links to web pages that support the summary.

Google presents AI Overviews (and the related AI Mode) as features that surface relevant links to help people find information quickly, with AI Overviews aimed at simplifying complex topics. Google states there are no additional technical requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode — the same fundamentals apply: the page must be crawlable and indexable, and content should be helpful and reliable. Which pages are cited is determined by Google at query time and can vary.
