Google Merchant Center
A free Google platform where merchants upload and manage product data so their products can appear across Google Search, Shopping, Images and Maps.
Definition
Google Merchant Center is a free Google platform where merchants upload and manage their product data so those products can appear across Google surfaces — including Search, the Shopping tab, Images, Maps and YouTube.
Merchants add business details and connect sales channels, then supply product data either by uploading a feed or by syncing from a platform such as Shopify. The product data follows Google's product data specification. Merchant Center feeds can complement Product structured data on the site: the feed gives Google detailed, controllable commerce data, while on-page markup improves eligibility for product rich results.
Examples
Shopify sync
A Shopify store connects to Google Merchant Center, which pulls its catalogue automatically so the products become eligible to appear in Google's free shopping listings.
Feed upload
A retailer uploads a product feed to Merchant Center with prices and availability, giving Google commerce data it can show in the Shopping tab.
