Local Pack
A group of local business listings displayed with a map on Google Search, ranked by Google's local algorithm using relevance, distance and prominence.
Definition
The Local Pack is a SERP block that shows a small set of nearby business listings alongside a map, surfacing details such as name, rating, hours and directions for a location-based query.
Local Pack results are drawn from Google Business Profile data rather than the standard web index. Google states that local rankings are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence, and the pack typically displays three listings — which is why it is also called the '3-pack' or 'map pack'. Users can tap 'More places' to open a fuller Google Maps results view.
Examples
Restaurant search
A user in Sydney searches 'best ramen near me'. Above the organic results, the Local Pack shows three ramen restaurants with star ratings, addresses, opening hours and a map pin for each.
Service business
Searching 'emergency plumber Bondi' returns a Local Pack of three plumbing businesses with phone numbers and 'Call' buttons, each linked to its Google Business Profile.
