Organization Structured Data

Markup using schema.org's Organization type that describes a business so Google can understand and disambiguate it.

Definition

Organization structured data is markup based on schema.org's Organization type that supplies administrative details about a business, such as its name, logo, contact points and address. Google uses it to better understand an organisation and to disambiguate it within Search.

Google states there are no required properties for Organization structured data; the guidance is to include fields that genuinely apply to the organisation. Some properties influence visible elements such as a logo in Search results or knowledge panels, while others work behind the scenes for disambiguation. Google suggests placing the markup on a single representative page, such as the homepage or an about page, and using the most specific applicable schema.org subtype, for example OnlineStore for an e-commerce business.

Examples

  • Homepage identity markup

A company adds JSON-LD on its homepage with its name, logo, address and sameAs links to its official social profiles.

  • Contact details

A business includes a contactPoint with a customer service telephone number and email so Google can associate those details with the organisation.
