Video Structured Data
VideoObject schema markup that describes a video to Google, enabling video rich results, key moments and a live badge in search.
Definition
Video structured data is schema.org VideoObject markup that describes a video — its title, description, thumbnail, upload date and duration — so Google can present it as a video rich result and enable features like key moments and a live badge.
Using the VideoObject type, the markup gives Google details it uses to show videos across Search, the Video tab and Google Images. Nested types unlock specific features: Clip or a SeekToAction can define 'key moments' that let users jump to segments, and BroadcastEvent can mark a livestream so it shows a LIVE badge. As with other structured data, eligibility does not guarantee a rich result — Google decides what to show.
Examples
Tutorial video
A cooking site marks up its embedded video with VideoObject, including thumbnail and duration, making it eligible for a video rich result in Google Search.
Key moments
A how-to channel adds Clip markup for each chapter of a repair video, so Google can show 'key moments' links that jump viewers straight to a section.
