Sitemap Monitoring The Sitemap Monitoring feature provides a visual representation of your website's sitemap structure and tracks indexing status through Google Search Console. Monitor how well Google is discovering and indexing your content. Requirements Google Search Console integration connected. Sitemaps submitted to Google Search Console. Verified website ownership in GSC This feature displays data from Google Search Console. You must submit your sitemaps through GSC or your SEO plugin first. Understanding the Sitemap Tree Visual Hierarchy The tree structure shows: ๐ Domain - Your website root. ๐ Sitemap Index - Main sitemap file listing other sitemaps. ๐ Individual Sitemaps - Specific sitemaps for different content types. ๐ Pages - Individual URLs within each sitemap Color-Coded Categories Different sitemap types have unique colors: Blue - Post/blog sitemaps. Green - Page sitemaps. Purple - Product sitemaps. Orange - Category/taxonomy sitemaps. Pink - Custom post type sitemaps Status Indicators Indexing Status Each sitemap shows indexing metrics: Submitted - Number of URLs submitted to Google. Indexed - Number of URLs actually indexed. Index Rate - Percentage of submitted URLs that are indexed Status Badges ๐ข Green (>80%) - Excellent indexing rate. ๐ก Yellow (50-80%) - Moderate indexing, room for improvement. ๐ด Red (<50%) - Poor indexing, investigation needed Health Indicators โ Green checkmark - Healthy, no issues. โ ๏ธ Yellow warning - Has warnings to review. โ Red X - Errors detected, immediate attention needed Using the Interface Navigation Click nodes to expand/collapse branches. Use 'Expand All' to see entire structure. Use 'Collapse All' to simplify view. Click external links to view actual sitemap files Refresh Data Click the refresh button to: Fetch latest data from Google Search Console. Update indexing statistics. Check for new sitemaps. Refresh status indicators Information Displayed Sitemap Details Last Submitted - When sitemap was submitted to Google. Last Downloaded - When Google last fetched the sitemap. Last Modified - When sitemap content last changed. Warnings/Errors - Count of any issues Page-Level Data For individual pages (first 30 shown): Full URL of the page. Last modified date. Indexing status (indexed, pending, error) Common Indexing Issues Low Index Rate If your index rate is low: Check for crawl errors in GSC. Verify robots.txt isn't blocking pages. Ensure pages have unique, quality content. Check for duplicate content issues. Verify canonical tags are correct Sitemap Errors Invalid XML format. URLs returning 404 errors. Sitemap file too large (>50MB or 50,000 URLs). Incorrect sitemap location. Authentication required for sitemap access Best Practices Keep sitemaps under 50,000 URLs each. Use sitemap index for large sites. Update sitemaps when content changes. Include only canonical URLs. Remove outdated or redirected URLs.
